luck.moe: Lucky Moe for 120 Yuan

As a broke college freshman who scrounges for one-yuan coupons just to afford a drink at Mixue, I stumbled upon a treasure a few days ago in Porkbun’s auction section — luck.moe.

“Luck” — fortunate. “Moe” — that indescribable Japanese aesthetic of adorable helplessness. Put them together and you get “Lucky Moe.” Five letters, clean and simple, piercing straight through this penniless otaku’s heart.

I agonized over it for ages but couldn’t resist. I placed a bid of $7. Just think of it as skipping twenty cups of lemonade — that’s how I comforted myself.

A couple of days later, the email arrived. Nobody else bid. I won it.

Renewal is $13 per year, bringing the total to $20. I knocked off a chunk using leftover PayPal balance from doing online surveys, so the actual damage came to about 120 yuan.

120 yuan. That’s dozens of Mixue drinks I won’t be having. This month is definitely a grass-eating month.

But luck — that thing called luck — spending 120 yuan to keep a piece of “lucky” in your pocket? Worth it, no matter how you calculate it.
